Simple Food Swaps to Help You Feel Less Sore and Tired

Last week, I talked about fish oil and how it can help with inflammation and joint health.

This week, I want to talk about something that affects almost everyone — being inflamed. These days, it’s kind of normal to feel sore, stiff, bloated, or tired all the time. A lot of that comes from the food we eat, stress, and not getting enough rest.

The good news? You can help your body feel better with a few simple food swaps. No crazy diets or hard rules, just small changes that add up over time.

1. Swap Processed Meats → Real, Simple Proteins
Things like sausage, bacon, and deli meat can make inflammation worse because they have a lot of added stuff.
Try instead: chicken, salmon, eggs, or ground beef.
These are simple, real foods that help your body recover after workouts.

2. Swap Vegetable Oils → Olive or Avocado Oil
A lot of packaged and fast foods are cooked in cheap oils that aren’t great for your body.
Try instead: cook with olive oil or avocado oil.
They’re healthier and help your body fight inflammation instead of feeding it.

3. Swap White Carbs → Whole or Natural Carbs
White bread, pasta, and sweets can make your blood sugar spike and crash, which makes you tired and sore.
Try instead: oats, sweet potatoes, brown rice, or sourdough bread.
They give you steady energy that lasts longer.

4. Swap Sugary Drinks → Water or Green Tea
Soda, energy drinks, and fancy coffees are packed with sugar that causes inflammation.
Try instead: water with lemon or berries, or drink green tea.
You’ll feel more hydrated and have better energy.

5. Swap Processed Snacks → Real Food Snacks
Chips, crackers, and cookies might taste good, but they’re full of oils and sugar that make inflammation worse.
Try instead: a handful of nuts, fruit with peanut butter, dark chocolate, or Greek yogurt.
These still taste good and help your body feel better.

Bonus: Get Good Sleep
Food isn’t the only thing that matters. When you don’t sleep enough, your body gets more inflamed and you recover slower.
Try to get 7–8 hours of sleep most nights and take at least one rest or light recovery day each week.

Feeling sore and tired all the time doesn’t have to be your normal. Start by making one or two of these swaps this week. Little changes like this can help you feel less stiff, have more energy, and move better!
