Understanding CrossFit Workouts: How We Structure Our Classes
At its core, CrossFit is about pushing boundaries and improving overall fitness, but how exactly does each class help you get there? The structure of our CrossFit workouts is designed to challenge your body in every way possible—whether that’s strength, endurance, mobility, or power. Here’s a closer look at how we structure our classes.
1. The General Warm-Up: Prepare to Perform
Every CrossFit class begins with a General Warm-up. This phase isn’t just about breaking a sweat—it's about preparing your body for the intensity to come. We typically include a combination of mobility drills, dynamic stretching, and light movements to warm up large muscle groups. The goal is to increase blood flow, improve joint mobility, and mentally prepare you for the workout.
2. Specific Warm Up: Practice
After the warm-up, we shift gears into our specific focused portion of the class.
The Specific Warm up is where we focus on practicing the specific skills and movements we will be performing in our workout of the day (WOD).
This is where we develop good movement technique and expose you to new skills using progressions to learn the movements and the coaching cues to correct any faults.
3. The Workout of the Day (WOD): High-Intensity, Functional Fitness
The WOD is where the magic happens. This is the heart of the CrossFit class, and it’s designed to combine elements of cardio, strength, and gymnastics into one challenging workout.
Each WOD is designed to push your cardiovascular endurance, strength, and mental toughness. It’s important to note that all movements can be scaled or modified to meet the needs of athletes at every level, from beginner to advanced.
4. The Cool-Down: Recover and Reflect
To wrap up the workout, we dedicate time to cool down and recovery. This segment typically includes static stretching, going for a walk, and foam rolling to help your muscles relax and to aid in recovery. It's an essential part of the workout, allowing your heart rate to gradually return to normal and bring you back to homeostasis.
By structuring each class with a combination of warm-ups, a challenging WOD, and a cooldown, we ensure that every class is both effective and safe. Whether your goal is to get stronger, improve your endurance, or just become more fit, our class structure is built to help you achieve that—and have fun while doing it!
