The Origin and Vision of CrossFit Electrica

How it began.

In March 2018, Alex and I were walking the downtown Napa Valley area, trying to find the restaurant we were looking for.  It was a cool, crisp evening, and we were adjusting to both the regional time change and seasonal time change at one time.

“Gran Electrica.”  We could clearly see the restaurant sign from our walking path, and the cute “Let’s guac and roll all night.” chalkboard outside caught our eye.  Once inside, we quickly took in and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere.  It was small but lively.  The music made you a little giddy inside but wasn’t overdone.

I distinctly remember our next conversation.

“CrossFit Electrica.  That would be a cool gym name.”  Little did we know that small moment in time would define our future.  Months and years down the road we would half-jokingly bring the idea from our minds into casual conversation (mostly with some wine).  Over a much longer time, our dialogue would turn more serious, but we never thought it could become our reality, let alone our life.

In October 2023, after some major life changes, we formalized our name and became a CrossFit Affiliate!  It happened fast.  Really fast.  But looking back, it was now apparent the small seed was there all along.  It just needed a little watering and a lot of faith.

Our Vision.

“Train somewhere you love.”  You may have seen this statement on one of our shirts.

We want to be the place where you don’t have to go, but truly want to go.  A place where you look forward to seeing the people you love while bettering your physical, emotional and mental health.

We want you to come in after a hard day at work, and let the stress go, feeling better while leaving.  For one hour a day, we want your mind to be not on the stressors of your personal or work life, but just on the task at hand…moving your body, sweating and getting stronger and healthier.

What comes next involves some vulnerability on my part.  Some may know I lost my late husband in 2013 to a drunk driver.  As cliche as it sounds, CrossFit saved my life.  I found purpose and belonging in a time that I needed it the most.  Physically, I did things that I thought were impossible, but more importantly, I found true and long-standing friendships (some of which have been in my life for 10+ years), and eventually my husband.  We now have our son in the place we created! (This is still so crazy to me.)

My story isn’t uncommon.  We have current members who have lost spouses, friends, relationships or jobs and have found restoration in CrossFit and the “family” it has provided.

Who is included?

We take great pride in inclusivity.  Different people with different backgrounds and ways of life find a common ground when they come here. It doesn’t matter who you are, you are welcome.

There is one goal:  to improve our overall health.  You never know, you may even find some lifelong friends or even a member/good friend who becomes ordained just to marry you! (Shout out TT!)  The possibilities are endless :)
