What is “RPE”?

Goodmorning Electrica familia!

I wanted to take a moment and talk to you guys about RPE.

RPE stands for Rate of Perceived Exertion. It’s a simple way to measure how hard you feel you're working during exercise, usually on a scale from 1 to 10—where 1 feels like a light warm-up and 10 feels like you're giving it absolutely everything. It's a great way for us to adjust the intensity of our workout based on how you are feeling that day.

Here’s a breakdown of how RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) typically feels on a scale from 1 to 10:

RPE 1–2: Very light effort — You’re barely working, like a slow walk or easy stretching.
RPE 3–4: Light effort — You’re moving but can easily hold a conversation.
RPE 5–6: Moderate effort — You're breathing heavier, heart rate is up, but you can still talk with some effort.
RPE 7–8: Hard effort — You're pushing yourself, talking is tough, but you could keep going for a bit.
RPE 9: Very hard — You're near your limit, only a few more reps or seconds left in the tank.
RPE 10: Max effort — All out, nothing left to give, can’t talk, total exertion.

You'll start seeing RPE written on several workouts and I wanted to make sure everyone had a good idea of what it is and what it means. See you all in class!
