Sugared Out!
There is a problem. That problem is that we consume way too much sugar and live a sedentary lifestyle. The average person in the United States consumes around 17 teaspoons, or 71.14 grams, of added sugar per day, which far exceeds recommended limits. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324673
Federal recommendations are to consume less than 10% of total daily calories from added sugars.
Men should consume no more than 9 teaspoons (36 grams or 150 calories) of added sugar per day.
Women should consume no more than 6 teaspoons (25 grams or 100 calories) per day.
Consuming too many added sugars can lead to health problems such as weight gain and obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
The leading sources of added sugars in the US diet are sugar-sweetened beverages, desserts, and sweet snacks. Examples of desserts and sweet snacks are cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, ice cream, doughnuts, and pastries.
Those aren’t the only things with added sugars. Next time you go to the grocery store, take a look at the nutrition label on some of these items.
Pasta sauce.
Ketchup and barbecue sauces.
Protein bars.
Granola bars.
Sports drinks.
Chocolate milk.
Breakfast cereals.
I think you will be surprised to see how much added sugars are in these products.
